This is Kniven, a limited edition, handmade knife manufactured by Otter Messer in collaboration with Blixt & Dunder.
In December 2011 we released Kniven (the Knife), a handmade pocketknife with a weatherproof rosewood handle, broad, curved blade and decorative brass ornament and rivets. Kniven is a classic nautical knife, made by the German manufacturer Otter-Messer for Blixt & Dunder in a limited run of just 60 knives. Kniven sold out in less than tree weeks.
Otter company was founded around 1840 in a small ‘Kotten’ – a traditional grinder’s watermill – at the Königsmühle in Solingen by the Berns brothers. Their name comes from the indigenous otters, which used to live in the riverbanks and streams in the Bergisch Land region in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Otter knives are made in Solingen using traditional methods. Until today, they are manufactured and sharpened there using meticulous handcraftsmanship.
